I am not confident that's what Render Unto Caesar is supposed to mean. It seems more ambiguous to me, like, you can take it as "Pay your taxes", but you could also realize that Caesar doesn't own anything and it's actually all God's; all human authority is subsidiary to God's authority. Not to mention the question of what bears God's image and scripture.

So it's an answer that can be understood in both ways, and therefore its an appropriate evasion of a direct answer to a BS question. He couldn't be trapped because his answer could be understood either way.

Thus, we could also then point out that the real answer Jesus gave here to "Should we pay our taxes to Caesar" is "it depends".
